Chanel Handbags - Page 3
Chanel handbags waned in popularity after the death of their creator. However, they were revived when the designer Karl Lagerfeld was hired by the House of Chanel in 1983. The talented Lagerfeld immediately set about modifying the original 2.55 and reintroduced it in a variety of exciting new forms with the addition of the Coco Chanel “CC” logo. Chanel handbags enjoyed such resurgence in popularity that retailers only allowed customers to purchase three at a time!
Late in the 1990s, The House of Chanel introduced the “2005”. This playful pink bag had eight mesh compartments, one of which was created specifically for a mobile phone, another new idea in the world of fashion. The name is significant. The “2” indicated the final two years before the millennium's end, the “00” is the international calling code, and finally, “5” is the lucky number for Chanel.
Year 2005: The Allure of Chanel Handbags
Chanel handbags have evolved to suit the lifestyles of modern women while retaining their authentic qualities of elegance and originality. A full range of bags are now available, from chunky and practical totes to delicate evening bags.
Fall 2005 welcomes the continuation of the Ligne Cambon, a quilted tote made of the softest calfskin. It is available in classic black or glossy chocolate brown. The quilting is in large, bold squares and decorated by a large version of the Chanel logo. The new Ligne Cambon is large enough for the daily needs of a busy woman while expressing the luxurious comfort that was part of Coco Chanel's philosophy.
By contrast, the fall line also includes a tiny silver evening bag hanging gently on an elegantly long chain. It, too, is quilted in tiny squares and displays the Chanel logo on its clasp. The Chanel Vintage Square bag is a striking creation in a smoky violet lambskin, with shallow diamond shaped quilting. It has a short chain handle that matches the leather of the bag.
Chanel has also recently introduced a small clutch with a chain handle, the whimsical Precious Symbol's bag. This jaunty little purse is festooned with every trademark of Chanel: #5, the camellia, the four leaf clover, and the CC monogram. It also boasts a surprisingly low price tag for such an item: $995!
